Oh and I forgot...... its all changing again
Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 11:50PM
I forgot to say - this weekend my parents will find their house a little emptier than before as the last of their kids is leaving the house. The middle child is now leaving home to go to Uni in Northampton - just up the road. It is not so far away but I guess it will be a big change as they are used to having at least one noisy child in the house (and in some cases 3 or more)
Anyhow I am sure it will all go well though Uni will be a change of scene for Andrew, though I am sure he will be fine and all he has to do is bare in mind what good he will so when the course is done and he is a paediatric nurse.
Strange really when you think of the careers that we have all chosen ( or at least ended up in) and perhaps how far from our master plans we have ended up
When I went to Uni I had the grand plan of studying something that I thought would be interesting, and that I would be able to help people who had issues and ended up system testing (which is not really the same thing as working as a psychologist). I guess that is what happens when you end up in the real world and look at the cost of education. Although it is not all bad (even though I make it sound that way) At the end of the day I still use large chunks of my degree in terms of usability, design, training techniques etc.
Andrew always planned to join either the Police or one of the Armed Services and now he is off to study to be a nurse. I guess he is still helping people in a different way than he planned - but helping non the less.
Iain want to be an actor - he likes to interact with people and has a somewhat dramatic streak I think. He is currently working in the Hotel management - he has the interaction with people but I am not sure it is quite what he planned on. Being the youngest though he still has plenty of time to decided what he wants to do, and even then there is time for him to change his mind.
I guess when you look back on it we are kind of in the areas that we wanted in terms of helping people or interacting with people but we are all just taking unplanned paths to get there
Anyway
Andrew - Good luck - work hard, play hard, remember your end goal and that what lies before you and behind you is little compared to what lies within you
Iain - remember the work part as well as the play hard bit *8)
And mum and dad - just think what you can do with those 2 rooms now - just make sure there is a bed we can crash in when we come to visit.
